GENERAL INFORMATION See the Museum's monthly newsletter online at www.lisburntoday.co.uk Welcome to the Irish Linen Centre & Lisburn Museum. Originally a museum of local history of Lisburn and the Lagan Valley, Lisburn Museum expanded in 1994 with the opening of the Irish Linen Centre. It is based in the centre of Lisburn in the town's 17th century Market House. The Museum, the Museum Shop and the cafe opening hours are 9.30am-5.00pm Monday-Saturday. Closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, Thursday and Friday 25 and 26 December and on 1 January 2009. We collect and display the cultural heritage of the Irish linen industry and the history of the Lagan Valley region. Our Flax to Fabric exhibition tells the story of the Irish linen industry with skilled demonstrations of hand spinning and handloom weaving, as well as displaying wonderful examples of historic linen costume and furnishings. A souvenir publication, Flax to Fabric - the Story of Irish Linen compiled by Brenda Collins, is available in The Museum Shop. In addition to displaying items from our collections, the Museum also has a range of temporary travelling exhibitions. For further details, see the exhibitions and events page. The Museum Shop sells a wide range of high quality linen and craft goods. NEW - An exclusive range of Irish linen damask table linen is on sale in the Museum Shop. A modern flax flower design, produced by our skilled staff, combines the traditions of quality and craftmanship with today's sophisticated lifestyle. The range includes cloths, napkins, luncheon sets and runners and is available in white and natural. This exclusive range is available only at Lisburn Museum Shop.
